YEAR 12 RAISE FUNDS TO HELP UGANDAN CHILDREN ATTEND SCHOOL PDF Print E-mail

Year 12 students will be fundraising over a three week period to assist children in Uganda to attend school. The children that will be helped are not only financially disadvantaged but come from families who are infected with HIV Aids and/or tuberculosis. The students will be trying to match the efforts of Year 12 in 2009, who were able to provide 15 students with the opportunity to attend school for a year. Students from Homebush first supported the Ugandan children from Kawempe Homecare in 2008, after they discovered the plight of these children, when one of our students Kann Sozen built a website to allow Kawempe Home Care to publicise their activities. That year enough money was raised to enable 13 students to attend school. The cost to sponsor a primary school student is US$160 (Aus$200) and a secondary student US$240 (Aus$290). To see what this provides you can go to the GET INVOLVED section of the Kawempe Home Care website.

Over fifty Year 12 students volunteered to help in the fundraising and have been broken into teams named appropriately after animals in Africa - Team Leopard, Team Lion, Team Cheetah and Team Rhino. The fundraising will be over three weeks from Monday 24th May until Friday 11th June and Year 12 will be approaching all students and staff to help by selling  tickets in a raffle for a car organised by the Rotary Club of Burwood. Tickets are in books of ten and are $2 a ticket. Students who sell a book of tickets will be eligibible to win an iPod and  the seller of the most books will be awarded a framed signed poster of the 2009 Penrith Panthers. Members of the school community can purchase tickets from students or by contacting the school.
