2009 ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards PDF Print E-mail

This is the fourth year that Homebush Boys' High has nominated students for the prestigious ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards. The Awards program was created to acknowledge the achievements of young people, who have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and teamwork either within our school or in the wider community. Leadership and Teamwork is underpinned by qualities such as supporting others and doing the best you can, which are values the ADF shares with the broader community. The three students nominated have been recognised for their exemplary demonstration of these values. Thomas Stefoulis (Yr12), Dennis Griffin-Couls (Yr 11) and Erkan Altun (Yr 10) were awarded their certificates on a full school assembly.

As well as being awarded the ADF Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards Certificate the students were given cheques of $100, $250 and $500 to assist them in their future studies. Small profiles of the students appear below.

Thomas has had a long history of student leadership. His election as School Captain 2009 by his peers recognises the values that Thomas possesses. A perfect example of these values can be seen in his organisation of Year 12 to run a whole school fundraiser to enable fifteen Ugandan children from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend school for the 2009/10 school year.

Dennis's attributes have been recognised by his fellow students who elected him as Chairman of the Student representative Council. He is heavily involved in sport, both summer and winter, and has involved himself in a number of extra curricula activities which has developed his personal skills while at the same time allowing him to make a huge contribution to the local community.

Erkan is an articulate young man with a commitment to excellence. His natural leadership skills have been enhanced with his involvement in the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment. His extra curricula activities include his involvement with The Science Experience and his fundraising  for numerous charities. He was elected by his peers to the Student Representative Council.
