Students at Homebush have the opportunity in Year 11 and 12 to undertake studies at TAFE while studying for the HSC. There are a wide range of courses available over a one year or two year period. James Yoon who is undertaking a 2 Unit Accounting course at Meadowbank TAFE, was acknowledged as an oustanding student and rewarded with a certificate and book voucher.
James Yoon being congratulated for his TVET Outstanding Student Award on a school assembly by Principal Dr Ian Paterson
In a letter with the certificate it stated that James received the award owing to his "....diligence, application, attitude to study and involvement to class. The result is an Outstaning Student".
The Rotary Club of Burwood is
offering one student the opportunity to participate in its Rotary Youth
Exchange Program (RYEP). If successful in applying for this position a student
would spend a GAP year following his HSC in Catarmarca, Argentina.
The exchange will take place in
January 2010 and students would have to be prepared to learn to speak (or to
speak) Spanish, as in Catamarca very little English is spoken. This is a
wonderful chance for students to learn about another culture.
Fred Walker and John Mansour from
the Rotary Club of Burwood will be giving a talk and answering any interested
studentÂ’s questions they may have at a meeting at the school lunchtime Monday 1st
December. To register your interest, see the school Rotary Coordinator Mr.
Pinkey.
A reunion is planned for the 1965 School Certificate, 1967 Higher School Certificate, 1966 Drop Outs. Would anyone like a reunion with the following: Colin Maynard,Colin Keighran, Don (Barney) Graham, Brian Moore and Brad Oyston

Kawempe Home Care Initiative Students Celebrate Their First Year of Sponsored Study
In his email on the Kawempe Home Care Initiative September 'blog" Emre Mehmet School Captain 2008 wrote:-
" As School Captain at Homebush Boys' High School I am pleased to inform
you that the Prefect Body and senior school students at Homebush Boys
High School have raised Aus$2800 towards the school fees of students
under the care of KHCI by selling a 2005 Signed Australian Rugby Jumper
and by collecting from students. We are very grateful to the Rotary
Clubs of Silverwater and Concord for their combined bid for the jumper.
Kawempe Home Care Initiative gives children in Uganda the opportunity
to participate in education and as students we believe that education
is the foundation for better health, and overcoming poverty. Educating
a group of individuals will allow them to lead a lifetime with the
opportunity to find suitable employment allowing them to contribute to
their communities. This could potentially mean greater access,
participation and rights for all. We wish our fellow Ugandan students
all the best in their coming school years".
The money raised has helped considerably the Kawempe Home Care Initiative school support scheme. Below is an extract from the Kawempe Home Care October "blog" and a copy of a letter of appreciation sent to Emre from Dr. Samuel Guma, Executive Medical Director. The letter also contains a brief biography of the students that Homebush Boys are sponsoring.
Five students from Homebush were sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Silverwater & Concord to attend the Siemens Science Experience 2008 at the University of New South Wales. Below is a report written by the students on their experiences at the program.
Deputy Principal, Yusuf Latash, Omar Ibrahim, Erkan Altun & Mohamed Omran give their "Thumbs Up" to the program
