Year 12 Multimedia students
create a major project as part of their HSC assessment. They aim to make a
marketable product of professional standards. HBHS often produce excellent work
and 2008 was no exception. A number of the 2008 projects were truly outstanding.
The electronic highway delivered the good news to the graduating class of 2008 from Homebush Boys High School. A record eight students received the Premiers All-Rounder Award for scoring above 90 in each of their subjects. Samuel Che, Li Yuan Chen, Elison Furneaux-Bate, Rajit Gilhorta, Ibrahim Kerem, Tony Lee, Jing Shun Ma and Parth Upadhyay were the recipients of the tradition of outstanding results for students of the school.

Another 14 students scored above 90 in four of their five subjects, missing the award by one subject. Three students missed out by one mark from receiving the award. They were Peter Ayre, Steuart MacAllister and David Paterson.

Each term students and staff collect cans and non perishable food to give to Exodus Ashfield, run by the Rev. Bill Crews. The Exodus Foundation Support Services team strives to create a sense
of belonging and self worth something everyone hopes for and
deserves. It provides a comprehensive range of support services including providing meals and food parcels for those in need. Homebush has been assisting in this process for the last eight years. To find out more about the Exodus Foundation click here

School Exodus Coordinator Ron Tedford and Exodus representative Peter Pyper both agreed that this was the biggest contribution so far. Ron stated "Given the financial climate at present the response from parents, students and teachers has been terrific!!! Your contribution will certainly brighten up the lives of a number of families over the Christmas period."
Alex Patrulescu has been selected to represent Australia in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival to be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre from January 14th - 18th 2009. Alex is a Year 12 student who is taking a pathways approach to his HSC because of the time spent in the pool training throughout the year.

Alex finished 5th in both the 400m and 100m freestyle events at the 2008 Pacific School Games held in Canberra from the 30th November until 6th December. Alex's time for the 100m was a personal best of 53.37 which he has since lowered to 53.20.
The United Nations designated November 16th as the "International Day For Tolerance". Phillip Siomos a Year 8 student reminded students on a full school assembly the importance of recognising this day.
This is the third year that Homebush Boys' High has nominated students for the prestigious ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards. The Awards program was created to acknowledge the achievements of young people, who have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and teamwork either within our school or in the wider community. Leadership and Teamwork is underpinned by qualities such as supporting others and doing the best you can. The three students nominated have been recognised for their exemplary demonstration of these values. Emre Mehmet (Year 12), Thomas Gallagher (Year 11) and Shivayan Saravanpavanathan (Year 10) were awarded their certificates on a full school assembly.

As well as being awarded the ADF Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards Certificate the students were given cheques of $100, $250 and $500 to assist them in their future studies. Small profiles of the students appear below.
