Over the last six years Homebush Boys has used Private Providers to run courses that will benefit students when they leave school. This term 30 students from Year 12 undertook the Responsible Serving of Alcohol and the Responsible Conduct of Gambling. This certification is a prerequisite for persons to work in the hotel industry. Some students who took the courses intend pursuing careers in the hospitality industry while others see it as an opportunity to get qualifications which will allow them to work part-time while undertaking further full time study.

Another twenty students from Years 10, 11 and 12 spent a day to do a Construction Induction Course . This is an Occupational Health & Safety Course commonly known as the "Green Card'. The certificate is essential for any person wanting to work in the construction industry since without it they can not go on to building sites. All people interested in careers from architect, bricklayer, carpenter, civil engineer, electrician through to tiler will need this qualification.

At the recently held North West Metropolitan Schools Sports Presentation Homebush Boys Career Adviser, Tom Pinkey, was presented with a plaque in appreciation for his service as Zone President from 1995-2008. He has been involved with Zone Sport since 1975 and from 1977 until 2008 has been on the Zone committee either as a Sports Coordinator, Sports Convener and/or Zone President. Mr. Pinkey has long believed that sport establishes areas of enrichment for students who may not necessarily otherwise be recognized. In his final annual report as President he stated that “Sport develops in students’ good self-esteem, contributes to their well-being and gives them the opportunity to come into contact with students from different social and cultural backgrounds. It teaches them correct social behaviour as they travel to and from sport and it allows them to experience the joy of success and how to handle disappointment in defeat. It teaches them independence and can produce life long friendships not only with students from their own school but also with students from other schools they play against.”
Ron Tedford Vice President of NWMZ School Sports presents Tom Pinkey with his Appreciation Plaque
